I have the honour to inform Your Lordship that the Governor duly transmitted to the Earl of Kimberly a copy of your letter of the 7th August 1879: but until His Excellency could ascertain the views of the Colonial Chaplain and other members of the Church of England in Hongkong, on the contemplated discontinuance of all grants for Ecclesiastical purposes, it is not possible for the Governor to submit his final recommendation.
